Vibrant cities are key to Michigan’s economic recovery. MHCDF’s mission is to provide housing opportunities for all Michigan residents and help transform our economy. Revitalizing and rebuilding Michigan’s communities will help put Michigan back on the right track.

There are already some great programs using MHCDF grants from past years. One such example is the Village View Housing Partners in Garfield Township in Northern Michigan. Village View Housing Partners used its grant for construction costs to build 18 townhouse style buildings and five duplexes for low income families. These new developments will help keep residents in our communities and make Michigan a place to live, work, play and retire.

Remember to check the box on line 24 this tax season – and don’t forget to spread the word to your family, neighbors and friends. Our families and children need a vibrant and thriving place to live. Help invest in Michigan’s future!

In 2008, Housing Resources, Inc. used its grant from the MHCDF to expand their rapid re-housing services program right here in Kalamazoo. This program helps families pay for security deposits and housing services. Families can find affordable housing and communities will benefit as those families live, work, play and retire here in Kalamazoo.

The April 15 deadline is quickly approaching – tell your friends, co-workers and neighbors how MHCDF benefits your local communities!

The MHCDF supports dozens of projects across the state. One such project came from the Habitat for Humanity of Muskegon County. This grant was used to purchase construction materials for a new home built for a single mother with a disability. Programs like this one help families stay in our communities.

Spread the word – the deadline is April 15!

Mid Michigan communities need your support! Michigan’s economy needs help to be set back on the right path. One way to do that is to invest in the revitalization of Michigan’s communities. The mission of the MHCDF is to provide housing opportunities to Michigan residents and help transform our economy. There are some programs currently working to improve the quality of life of our residents, but they need your help.

Examples of current revitalizations come from all over the area: Mid Michigan Community Action Agency in Clare, Venture, Inc. in Linden and the Habitat for Humanity programs of Lansing, Bay County and Genesee County are all working help residents find and maintain affordable housing, from low income families to people with disabilities. New house building and senior housing complexes are just a few examples of rehabilitation and revitalization aimed at keeping Michigan families here in our communities.

Don’t forget to check line 24 of the voluntary contribution form with your taxes this season. Spread the word to your families, neighbors and friends. Rebuilding and revitalizing Michigan’s communities will help preserve Michigan’s future for our families and children.

The editors at the Lansing State Journal understand the importance of investing in our communities, which is why they’ve published the following Opinion Editorial to spread the message before the end of tax season to “Check the Box” on Line 24 this tax season!

Michigan is in an economic crisis, and one of the best ways to accelerate Michigan’s economic recovery is to invest in rebuilding and revitalizing Michigan’s communities. The MHCDF’s mission is to provide housing opportunities for all Michigan citizens, which will help jump start our economy. MHCDF has provided grants to help jump start projects, but they need your help!

Avalon Housing in Ann Arbor, Community Housing Network from Troy, Eastside LAND, Inc. and Southwest Housing Solutions in Detroit, along with the Habitat for Humanity programs in Detroit, Macomb County and Monroe County are examples of MHCDF investing in housing and our communities. Low income families and people with disabilities are just two examples of targets these programs have helped, either by building new housing, rehabilitating old housing or even assisting with security deposits.

The MHCDF is committed to restoring Michigan’s economy and preserving the future for families and children. Remember to check the box on line 24 of the voluntary contribution form when you file  your taxes this season. With the April 15^th deadline fast approaching, it is also crucial to spread the word to your friends, families and neighbors to “Check the Box!”

Together, we can save Michigan’s future.

In FY 2008, MHCDF leveraged more than $24 million to fund projects across the state. For each dollar invested, MHCDF leveraged $11 in public and private funding – allowing MHCDF to fund the building or repair of more than 309 homes and local projects across the state.

MHCDF brings money directly back into our communities. Local grant recipients employ local workers and purchase local materials to complete the projects, supporting our communities every step of the way

Success stories coming out of MHCDF include the Habitat for Humanity of Kent County, Muskegon County and Harbor and the West Michigan Therapy and Kalamazoo’s Housing Resources. Each program has its own unique features, like Kent County’s Habitat for Humanity which teams with Grand Rapids Community College Students to rehabilitate foreclosed houses. The programs help a variety of people, from low income families to people with disabilities. These programs revitalize and invest in our community and move Michigan forward – back on the track –this state and our citizens deserve.

Remember to Check the Box on line 24 of your state income tax form and fill out the voluntary contribution form this tax season to donate to MHCDF.

This brand new 30-second public service announcement encourages all Michigan taxpayers to support Michigan’s Housing and Community Development Fund  by checking the box to invest in jobs and revitalize local communities throughout Michigan.

Tim and Steve are working with Living in Michigan, a broad coalition of organizations and individuals supporting vibrant communities and the development of housing opportunities for all Michigan residents.
